You cannot see a deleted tweet on X itself. Once a post is deleted, X removes it from the profile, search and every timeline, so the only way to read it is a copy saved somewhere else: an archive snapshot, a quote or screenshot, an article that embedded it, or a tool that was already watching the account. Xanguard is that last kind. Track an X account in Telegram with @Xanguard_bot, and when it deletes a tweet Xanguard has seen, you get an alert with the deleted text.
Below: the free ways to find a tweet that is already gone, then how to make sure you never miss the next one.
How to see a deleted tweet that is already gone
Try these in order. All of them are free, and all of them depend on someone having saved the tweet before it disappeared.
- Wayback Machine. Go to web.archive.org and paste the post URL (x.com/handle/status/ID). If you do not have the link, paste the profile URL and open snapshots from before the deletion. Try the twitter.com version of the URL too, because older snapshots were saved under it. Well-known accounts are archived often; small accounts rarely are.
- archive.today. Search the same URLs at archive.ph. People often archive a controversial post there before it is taken down.
- Quotes, replies and screenshots. Search X and Google for an exact phrase from the tweet in quotation marks. Replies to a deleted post stay up, quote posts keep their own text, and screenshots get reposted.
- Articles that embedded it. News sites and blogs embed tweets with a copy of the text inside the embed code, so an article that embedded the post often still shows what it said after the original is gone.
Two things that no longer work: Google's cached copies of pages were retired in 2024, and ProPublica's Politwoops, which archived politicians' deleted tweets, is no longer maintained (only a partial 2025 snapshot remains).
Get an alert when a tracked account deletes a tweet
Archives are hit and miss because nobody knew the tweet mattered until it was gone. The reliable fix is to be watching before it happens. Xanguard tracks the X accounts you choose, sends every new tweet to Telegram (detected in a median of ~200 ms on paid plans), and keeps the text of each account's recent tweets. When one of them is deleted, you get this:
ποΈ Tweet Deleted Β· @exampledev
ββββββββββββββββββ
"CA is live, sending it. Not financial advice."
The alert lands in the same Telegram DM or alert group as your tweet alerts, so the deletion sits right under the original tweet you already received.
How it works for you
- Open @Xanguard_bot in Telegram and pick a paid plan (from $19 a month for 10 accounts, paid in SOL).
- Choose where alerts go. Create a private Telegram group, add @Xanguard_bot as an admin and send
/setupin the group. You can switch delivery to your private chat or to Topics later in/settings. - Send
/addfollowed by the usernames you want to watch. - Deleted-tweet alerts are opt-in: message Xanguard support at @notAdegen and ask for them on your account.
- From then on, each new tweet arrives as it is posted, and each deletion arrives with the text Xanguard kept.
What to expect
- Timing: usually within about two minutes of the deletion. Xanguard confirms the tweet is really gone before alerting, so you do not get false alarms when X has a hiccup.
- The text: included for recent tweets Xanguard saw while tracking the account. Tweets deleted before you started tracking, or very old tweets, have no saved copy.
- Precision over volume: Telegram alerts only fire when Xanguard can name the deleted tweet, so every alert points at a specific post.
Why deleted tweets matter
- Crypto: a developer posts a contract address and deletes it minutes later, a KOL scrubs a call that went wrong, a team removes a partnership claim. The deletion is often the signal.
- Walked-back announcements: companies and founders delete premature news, prices or dates.
- Public figures: journalists and researchers keep a record of what was said before it was taken back.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not on X itself. Once a post is deleted, X removes it from the profile, search and timelines, and its link says the post does not exist. You can only see a copy saved somewhere else: an archive snapshot (Wayback Machine, archive.today), a quote, reply or screenshot, an article that embedded it, or a tool such as Xanguard that was tracking the account when the tweet was posted.
Paste the post URL, or the account's profile URL, into the Wayback Machine (web.archive.org) and archive.today and open any snapshot from before the deletion. Then search X and Google for an exact phrase from the tweet to find quotes, replies, screenshots and news articles that embedded it. If none of these turn anything up, the text is most likely gone for good.
Yes. The Wayback Machine, archive.today and ordinary search are free, but they only work if someone saved the tweet before it was deleted. Xanguard's deleted-tweet alerts, which keep the text for you, are part of paid Tweet Alerts plans from $19 a month for 10 accounts.
Yes. Track the account in @Xanguard_bot on a paid plan with deleted-tweet alerts switched on. When that account deletes a tweet Xanguard has seen, you get a Telegram alert with the deleted text, usually within about two minutes of the deletion.
Xanguard confirms that a tweet is really gone before it alerts, so a short glitch on X never produces a false deleted alert. New tweets are a different case: on paid plans they are detected in a median of ~200 ms.
No. Xanguard keeps the text of recent tweets it has seen while tracking an account. A tweet deleted before you added the account, or a very old tweet, has no saved copy, so use the archive methods on this page for those.
Yes. Every Xanguard B2B API plan includes a twitter.tweet.deleted WebSocket event with the tweet ID and, when Xanguard saw the tweet, its text. Plans start at $49 a month for 50 accounts, paid in SOL, with keys issued in @B2B_Xanguard_bot.
Deleted-tweet alerts are an opt-in on paid Tweet Alerts plans. Pick a plan in @Xanguard_bot, link an alert group (create a private Telegram group, add @Xanguard_bot as an admin and send /setup in the group), add the accounts you want to watch, then message Xanguard support at @notAdegen on Telegram and ask for deleted-tweet alerts on your account.
